The Language / Culture Award of CAGT

  1. Purpose of the Award and Award Committee:
    • The Purpose of the Awards is to recognize the local Chinese teachers for their effort in teaching Chinese language and spreading the Chinese culture, and also to encourage students who have been learning Chinese for years and have made significant progress in their Chinese studies.
    • The Award Committee will consist of 3 to 5 members. The President of CAGT will appoint the committee Chair.
  2. Awardees Selection Procedure:
    • Call for nominations for the award will be at least four weeks before the announcement of the award recipients. Nominators and nominees must be current CAGT members and/or Chinese Center of Toledo members. Each nominator may nominate candidates for each type of award with a simple justification (one nomination for each type of award). The nomination process may take two weeks.
    • Committee members and CAGT board members will complete their votes for recipients of the awards one week before the announcement of the award recipients. The voting process may take one week.
    • The nominees with most votes will be determined as the award recipients.
3. The awards (up to $300 in total) and minimum criteria for the awards:
  • The Chinese Language Education Award will be presented to one or two local Chinese Language teachers who have made significant contribution in teaching Chinese Language and spreading Chinese culture.
  • The Best Overall Grades in Chinese Language Study Award will be presented to two students who have continuously achieved high marks through numerous years of Chinese language study.
  • The Excellence in Chinese Language Study and Community Service Award will be presented to two students who not only enjoy learning Chinese, but also love serving the Chinese community.
  • The Most Improved Grades in Chinese Language Study Award will be presented to two students who have shown marked improvement in Chinese language study for more than 1 year.
  • The Most Effort Contributed to Chinese Language Study Award will be presented to two students who have studied Chinese for more than 1 year with good attendance and consistent completion of homework.

The Outstanding Service Award of CAGT

  1. Purpose of the Award and Award Committee:
    • This Award is to recognize CAGT members who have made significant contributions to the local Chinese community and CAGT activities.
    • The Award Committee consists of five previous recipients. The president appoints the committee Chair.
  2. Awardees Selection Procedure:
    • A call for nominations for the award will be made at least four weeks prior to the announcement of the award recipient. Nominators and nominees must be current CAGT members. Each nominator can nominate one candidate with justifications within a page. The nomination process shall take two weeks.
    • The award committee will develop a recommendation based on the nomination materials and may consult other CAGT leaders for additional input during the selection process. The committee will send its recommendation to the CAGT board in one week after the nomination process is completed. Each CAGT board member will submit a vote for one nominee, and votes will be tallied at least one week prior to the public announcement.
    • The nominee receiving the most votes will be the winner of the award.
  3. Criteria for the award:
    • The winner must be a current CAGT member.
    • The winner must have made significant contributions to CAGT activities or events.
    • No CAGT members shall receive the award more than one time.
